It’s about time that I gave you some kind of report as to what has been happening with me. For the last two and half weeks, since my return from Washington State visit many exciting things have happened. First our (my wife and I) visit, we had an absolutely great time in the USA, meeting many wonderful people, but unfortunately, we missed seeing others, due to changing plans, etc.
However, one of the most exciting announcements coming my way during this time, was the appointment from the national headquarters of the Monarchist League of Canada. In that announcement the League appointed me as the “Edmonton and northern Alberta Chairman”, which is my official title. I am very excited and absolutely thrilled with the appointment, promotion and responsibility. I sincerely do look forward to developing the arena and stage for the League in this area of our community along with so many wonderful people who are current members and the many new folks who are planning to join. I would like to thank the National Chairman, Mr. Robert Finch and Secretary, for their confidence in me to take on this role. I gratefully accept the challenge and I seek the help and support of all.
I had an absolutely delightful time with the Kalyna presentation at Tofield, Alberta. The sessions went well and I learned much about Kalyna as a charitable organization helping the museums and a host of municipal organizations in the north-east area of Alberta. The hostess was Yvonne from the Nature Centre and Tofield Museum and her sister Margaret, who put on such a wonderful spread of foods, fruit, cakes, sandwiches and drinks. What a delightful afternoon visit I had with those two ladies !!! I learned so much about the community and all the heritage and history of the area. Just marvelous. I certainly do look forward to visit there again, soon. Many people dug right in and bought our new GR Recipe books. They went like hotcakes.!! Thanks for your support.
Welcome to April! Can spring be far behind? I hope not. I have been busy with a number client manuscripts, so I don’t always get to write in the blog as often. Just thought to make contact so you don’t think I am hibernating.
We are pleased to announce another addition to our publishing business. We have just added a genealogical component to our work. We can now do your family tree, along with research on the family name and its origin, family coat of arms and publish all that for a very reasonable cost. The family name search gives us close to 7,000,000 (seven million) names and the coat of arms (which identifies your family heritage and symbols) which can yield as many as 500,000 (five hundred thousand) symbols completing the coat of arms. For example; the family name of "Bauer" has numerous variations and spellings. So we can narrow this down to a localized region in the country of origin. In this case it is Germany. The name also has an origin and characteristic, such as, farmer, builder, and engineer. So we have the capability to zero in on historical family vocations and positions held in society. Consequently, these family origins are also reflected in the coat of arms for that particular family and its relation to vocation, notoriety and sometimes the religious faith these people had. There was often other additional information that may be available. Now the price for this publication is very reasonable for the elaborate and decorative publications produced. We propose to give you more on this in the days ahead.
Hurray!!! My German-Russian Recipe books, all three of the them out of eight in total, have now been released from the press and may be seen in the "Books" page of this web site. At long last, after many months and years of gathering, collecting, sorting, editing, they are finally available to our many subscribers. We have also managed to keep the price down and reasonable for everyone to be able to buy them. Thank you for rejoicing with us, as they are now available. So many of our audiences have asked "when" are they going to come!!! At last!! Keep your orders coming and we shall be able to ship them out to you as soon as they come in.
Perhaps some of you are asking, what has this website and your interest in royals got to do with writing? Because this is a topic of mine that I have a specific interest in, it would appear that this, like all topics, may be explored and written about if you have firstly, had some connection with it and secondly, if you feel that others might be in the same frame of mind and care to hear about it. Okay… so enough said on that topic.
Let me delve into the heart of my blog today, which has to do with the writing conference I attended previously. The speaker gave us some very useful tips, which I thought you might like to hear about. Here are some of his pointers.
1) Concentration – Set your mind to think about and do some serious research into an area that appeals to you. You might not always have the full knowledge to write your story, but “dig around a bit”. Unearth some valuable resource people and information and where and how it can be found. Once this research has brought to light some pertinent facts, move on it and begin to formulate a rough draft for yourself. Refine your thoughts, ideas, additional information and begin to construct the main idea by writing this down, next your supporting ideas, fill work and your conclusion. Don’t worry about the number of words, you should or shouldn’t use.
2) Final Draft – Prepare your final copy and work toward that. Touch ups will be necessary and a final version should now be sitting on your desk. Cull out unnecessary words and wrap up a few final sentences to bring things together and thus bring about a close. Done! As a matter of fact, your photographic skills might bring in a few well chosen images to compliment your story.
If you are doing a short article of five hundred to a thousand words… an hour to an hour and half is all you need to spend on this. A longer story and/or a book length manuscript definitely needs more time. A book length manuscript can take up to several months or years for that matter. Of course, this time frame may not sit to well with you. Each writer or author should adopt a schedule that suits him or her best. This is only a guideline. If your story or article has a limitation for words, then adjust your writing accordingly.
Thanks to all the great folks who sent messages of congratulation by phone calls and emails on my recent CTV News interview concerning the Royal Family. I might add that it was a special honor and privilege for me to discuss my personal interests in a topic which has been a passion of mine much of my life and at the same time for me to share with the public very briefly about my collection of royals. Furthermore, I had no idea that there were so many people interested in the monarchy and the royals. That was really exciting for me to hear! “Thank you!” If you have not had the opportunity to see this yet, just click on “Videos” on this website and open the news item.
